HR Generalist

Founded in 1960, Trans Ash is a rapidly growing, privately held Cincinnati-based civil land construction & environmental company. We are seeking to add an HR Generalist to our team to support our continued rapid growth within the utility industry. This role is a Corporate Office position, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and will support the HR needs of the Corporate Office and multiple work site locations throughout the Eastern and Midwest regions of the country.

Position Summary:

The Human Resource Generalist, working closely with the Human Resource Director, supports HR initiatives for corporate departments and our remote work site locations. Duties are performed at the professional level in the following functional areas: recruiting, hiring, onboarding, records management, reporting, and compliance, as well as providing support to other HR functions and team members. This position requires an individual who is extremely organized and possesses an outgoing personality to effectively relate to individuals at all levels within and outside the organization. The Generalist must be sensitive to and supportive of the company objectives and be able to provide practical solutions to meet current and future HR needs of the business.

Role and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following list of duties.

  • Works closely with hiring managers to facilitate a smooth process for pre-hiring, hiring, orientation and onboarding.
  • Assists with crafting job descriptions and postings, sourcing qualified candidates, reviewing applications, and other pre-screening activities.
  • Maintains employee and applicant documentation in compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with I-9 Verification, periodically conducting audits and training managers.
  • Ensures that communication about compensation and benefits are clear and timely.
  • Helps new and prospective employees with understanding their benefits and trouble-shoots problems.
  • Ensures compliance with Drug Free Workplace standards established by the company and in compliance with customer guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with hiring standards, established by Trans Ash and our customers, is met and proper documentation is maintained.
  • Updates and maintains the HR system with employee records.
  • Maintains confidentiality as it relates to the company and the information of individuals.
  • Monitors and reports on staffing levels to plan and turnover rates to identify trends and propose solutions.
  • Ensure the secure handling of electronic and paper employee personnel records and files.
  • Tracks disciplinary actions and terminations to help managers make better hiring decisions.
  • Responds to Unemployment Notices and attends hearings when necessary.
  • May help develop and present HR training for the purpose of professional development of current and future managers.
  • May act as an employee relations specialist and escalate matters appropriately as necessary.
  • Willingness and ability to cross-train and support other functions within the HR Department such as Benefits, Payroll and Training as the need arises or to cover for vacation or absences.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Five (5) years of HR Generalist experience
  • HS Diploma required, (2 or 4 yr. degree in HR or related field is preferred)
  • Experience using an ATS and other recruiting tools and resources
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • PHR/SPHR or CP/SCP certification is highly desirable
  • Construction, Manufacturing or Heavy Industrial experience is desirable

Preferred Skills:

  • HRIS experience with Viewpoint, Vista or Key-style is a plus
  • Exceptional organizational and follow-up skills
  • Outgoing and skilled at engaging employees and potential employees
  • Proven ability to be a flexible and dependable team player
  • Effective in both verbal and written communications
  • Benefits, Payroll, Training experience is a plus
